Watchdog Praises Trump for Pennsylvania Energy Speech

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) praised President Donald Trump for reasserting his commitment to making the United States (U.S.) a leader in energy production. In a speech in Pennsylvania, Trump stated that, “We are going to continue to expand energy production, and we will also create more jobs in infrastructure, trucking, and manufacturing.”

Elizabeth Warren tries to out-Trump Trump on trade

For consumers looking for a reprieve from the ongoing trade war and corresponding cascade of high prices, presidential hopeful Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Massachusetts, has a plan or two. Under the lawmaker’s recently-released trade proposal, the U.S. would trade with…basically no one at all. Warren compiles a lofty list that any potential trading partner would have to meet, including eliminating all fossil fuel subsidies and complying with OECD high-tax “projects.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) expressed its continued dissatisfaction with the U.S. Postal Service’s (USPS) fiscal performance following the agency’s announced loss of $2.3 billion for the third quarter of the 2019 fiscal year (FY). Summer Reading: Flying Beach Umbrellas and the FDA’s Sunscreen Folly

By now, most lawmakers have long filed away their proposed legislation and are either hanging out beachside or sipping a fruity cocktail by the pool. We hope that they get some relaxation before coming back to Washington, D.C. and hopefully making a dent in that $22 trillion. But, that’s not easy for some members of Congress worried about…wait for it…flying beach umbrellas and sunscreen lotion regulation.

Facebook Belongs in Banking. The US Postal Service? Not So Much.

Few companies, or agencies, have the chutzpah to ask Congress for a “chance to experiment with people’s bank accounts.” But, Facebook has taken the bold step and asked lawmakers for a chance to dabble in cryptocurrency with its cutting-edge Libra project (currently under development pending federal approval). At a Senate Banking Committee hearing last week, many lawmakers harshly criticized the profitable company for trying to venture into “Big Finance.” Bizarrely, some of these same lawmakers have suggested that the United States Postal Service (USPS), which has lost an astounding $70 billion since 2007, should expand into banking.

Medicare Advantage Can Save Taxpayers Billions…if Waste Is Cut Out

Millions of seniors rely on Medicare Advantage, one of the few government entitlements that rely on private competition instead of federal fiat. But the trust and security underlying the healthcare program is under threat by large insurers trying to get as many dollars as they can from taxpayers. According to recent government reports, insurers offering Medicare Advantage plans have overcharged taxpayers by more than $30 billion since 2016. Policymakers must ensure that Medicare Advantage remains a program that saves taxpayers money, instead of morphing into a money pit that deprives seniors of access to critical medications.

Summer Reading: Free Speech and Sec. 230

Congratulations! You, the “hardworking” member of Congress, are off for the entire month of August (and a week in September), and it’s time to celebrate. The heat wave hasn’t quite abated and jumping in the pool is a great way to escape global warming (erm…climate change). As you dry up on the beach, or by the pool, and prepare to tweet, remember that the internet is still alive and kicking (thanks to FCC Chairman Ajit Pai) and you still have multiple platforms like Facebook and Twitter to opine about whatever you’d like.

Memo to HHS: Drug Reimportation Will Increase Prices

Listening to presidential hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), pharmaceutical companies are squeezing U.S. households dry. Despite Bernie’s reckless rhetoric, some policymakers in the White House bizarrely believe that the socialist senator has the right idea about lowering drug costs with a new drug importation plan.
