Tobacco & Vaping 101: 50 State Analysis

Taxpayers Protection Alliance's Consumer Center, under the direction of Lindsey Stroud, released Tobacco & Vaping 101: 50 State Analysis. This annual set of analyses provides up-to-date data on adults who use cigarettes and e-cigarette products in each of the 50 states and Washington, D.C. The 2023 edition also includes data on youth use, impacts of e-cigarettes, and analyses of the amount of revenue received through tobacco taxes and funds from tobacco settlement payments.

TPA Encourages President Biden and Congress to Progress Towards Debt Ceiling Deal

President Biden and Congressional Leaders held another meeting today at the White House to negotiate a deal to address the debt ceiling and avert a government default. This second in-person meeting follows more than a week of staff-level conversations. TPA praises both Republicans and Democrats for moving towards correcting the nation’s fiscal future.

The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) earmarked $15 million for the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to conduct a study on the feasibility of a government run tax-prep system. Just a few months ago, the agency contracted with New America, a left-leaning think tank to conduct that study. Today, New America released their findings that stated the IRS should create and implement their own tax prep system using a pilot program that the IRS built even before the study was completed.

Cleveland, Tennessee Council votes to build GON, despite residents’ concerns

Despite concerns from local residents, many of whom asked for a public vote in the issue during a March hearing, the City Council in Cleveland, Tennessee, approved a motion last month to move forward with creating a city-owned (taxpayer funded) broadband network.
