Why Age Verification Mandates Could Put Children at Risk
Taxpayers Protection Alliance
December 2, 2025
On November 25, the Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) sent a letter to the House Energy and Commerce Committee raising concerns about proposed age verification mandates for social media platforms, chatbots, app stores, and digital devices. While these proposals are intended to protect children online, TPA warned that requiring users to submit sensitive personal information—like government IDs or biometric data—could actually put children’s privacy and safety at greater risk. Large databases of this data are vulnerable to hacks and breaches, meaning well-intentioned policies could unintentionally expose children to harm. Our full letter and one-pager below.
