Washington, D.C. – Today, the Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA), a taxpayer and consumer watchdog, officially launched the Government Antitrust Accountability Project (GAAP). GAAP’s mission is to ensure that antitrust enforcement remains narrowly focused on protecting consumers and not used as a vehicle to advance other political or economic interests. GAAP is a collection of materials to educate consumers, members of Congress, bureaucrats, and the media about the economic dangers of overzealous antitrust regulation. The website features stories from small businesses about how “Big Tech” has helped them survive during the COVID-19 pandemic. You can visit the website at antitrustaccountability.org or view it here.
TPA Vice President of Policy Patrick Hedger offered the following statement:
“Small and large businesses flourish when the government doesn’t use antitrust as a political weapon. TPA’s Government Antitrust Accountability Project shows why breaking up Big Tech will hurt small businesses. We have interviewed a number of small business owners that sell everything from T-shirts to BBQ spice rubs and wine. They are reliant on and grateful for platforms like Facebook, Amazon, and Google for giving them the tools to financially survive during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“Another area that we’ll be closely watching is the debate around Section 230 and the attempt to break up Big Tech.”
