TPA Leads Coalition Opposing the App Store Freedom Act

Today, the Taxpayers Protection Alliance led a coalition of organizations in sending a letter opposing the App Store Freedom Act (ASFA). The ASFA is sold as a pro-competition bill, but it would actually make smartphones less secure by forcing companies to allow sideloading, bypassing many of the protections that trusted app stores use to keep malware and fraud off users’ devices. At the same time, it reduces competition and consumer choice by prohibiting companies from competing on security and preventing consumers from choosing devices that deliberately prohibit sideloading.
