TPA Testimony to Georgia General Assembly’s Joint Tax Credit Review Panel

Taxpayers Protection Alliance

October 18, 2023

The Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) submitted testimony to the Georgia General Assembly’s Joint Tax Credit Review Panel against tax incentives and taxpayer subsidies in Georgia. Georgia legislators should look to the plethora of evidence against state tax incentives and subsidies. Research on this practice suggests that the benefits are not outweighed by the costs. While proponents of state tax incentives and subsidies try pointing to positive concentrated economic outcomes within communities that receive these incentives, there is always a larger unseen cost distributed broadly among taxpayers. Reducing the amount of tax incentives and subsidies administered at the state level would dramatically reduce waste and improve economic efficiency in Georgia.  State tax incentives and subsidies foster cronyism and corruption. Putting the government in a position to pick winners and losers in industry is adversarial to a free and fair economy. TPA applauds Representative Blackmon (GA-146) and Senator Hufstetler (GA-52) for their commitment to ensuring Georgians’ tax dollars are used prudently.
