WASHINGTON, D.C. – As April 15th is quickly approaching, the Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) is reminding Americans that common sense tax reform is desperately needed.

The U.S. tax code is 74,000 pages long. That means that, at the average reading rate for advanced scientific or technical material (6 pages per hour), it would take someone 12,333 hours and 18 minutes or nearly 514 days to read all of it.

Ahead of the looming Tax Day holiday, TPA Executive Director Patrick Hedger reminds Americans to urge their Senators to pass much-needed tax reform:

“Filing taxes is a dreaded experience every year for millions of Americans across the country. It’s complicated, expensive, and seemingly- never ending. Senators have the opportunity to deliver a big, bipartisan win with The Tax Relief for American Families and Workers Act of 2024. Americans are frustrated with high inflation, low wage growth, and rising cost of living. This legislation brings solid wins to the American public and a much-needed political wins to both sides of the aisle. The House rightly saw the immediate need to restore immediate and full Research and Development expensing, reinstate one hundred percent bonus depreciation, and provide relief on certain business-interest deductions, like machinery.”
