The Taxpayers Protection Alliance recently sent a letter to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) urging him to use his line item veto power to eliminate the credit card interchange study in the Legislative Support Services section of the proposed budget.

This study is unnecessary and should have been taken up during normal legislative business. The state of Florida should return the $1 million to the budget stabilization fund. Capping interchange fees sounds good in theory, but any savings would be lost due to the implementation of this policy change. Consumers would bear the brunt of these changes, losing valuable rewards programs and protections against fraud while larger retailers would pocket the savings.
