Washington, D.C. – Following President Biden’s State of the Union address, the Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) TPA Executive Director, Patrick Hedger, offered the following comment:
“Last night’s address to the nation by President Biden was unfortunately overshadowed by crippling inflation, overreaching pandemic restrictions, energy dependence on foreign countries, and trillion-dollar spending packages that make all of these problems worse.
“Big government policies continue to encroach on American’s freedoms. Freedoms that allow for entrepreneurship, innovation, and a flourishing economy. Unfortunately, Biden’s energy policies call for more spending on unreliable and unaffordable technologies in the midst of a global energy crisis.
“Excessive government spending is what contributed to record inflation in the first place, and a continued call for increased spending will only perpetuate the issue. After years of lockdowns and a global pandemic, Americans are yearning for a return to stability, not radical expansions of government.
“Not only have Americans seen a rise in costs for everyday essentials like groceries and gas, but many are concerned about high prescription drug prices. Current proposed legislation, like drug price controls, would actually curb innovation and incentivize higher list prices for new medicine on the market.
“At TPA, our priority is protecting the American consumer, and in the midst of global unrest, now is a ridiculous time to weaken American technology and companies that protect us from cyberattacks and malware. The administration and their allies in Congress are pursuing the opposite path.
This administration ought to reverse course and focus on policies that will ultimately bring both prosperity and security to all Americans.”
