WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) applauded President Trump for offering a $15 billion rescissions package.  According to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), the package will include, “unobligated balances from prior-year appropriations and reductions to budget authority for mandatory programs. These proposals include rescissions of funding that is no longer needed for the purpose for which it was appropriated by the Congress; in many cases, these funds have been left unspent by agencies for years.”

TPA President David Williams praised the move, saying, “this is the next logical, and fiscally responsible, step after regulatory and tax reform.  Taxpayers should be excited that the White House has addressed this unobligated spending.  Rescinding these funds ensures that nobody who is being served by these programs will be affected by this move.”

Williams concluded, “we are looking forward to working with OMB and the President to explore more spending cuts.  This move should put all spending on notice and show that the President is serious about spending reform.  As a taxpayer watchdog for 25 years, I am excited that President Trump has taken this first step.”
