WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, the Taxpayers Protection Alliance Foundation submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), requesting records from the agency regarding the award of grant funding to certain entities in Round Four of the ReConnect Loan and Grant Program.

TPAF is interested in uncovering more about the decision-making process at USDA for the program, which offers loans and grants to facilitate broadband deployment in areas of rural America. TPAF wants to ensure the government agency isn’t picking favorites over more well-qualified applicants.

TPAF is requesting all records regarding the following entities’ applications in Alaska: Cordova Telephone Cooperative, Unicom, Interior Telephone Company, and Mukluk Telephone Company.

“TPAF will continue to hold our government agencies accountable and ensure that politicking doesn’t rue the day over merit-based decision-making when it comes to the facilitation of broadband deployment,” TPAF President David Williams said.
