WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Department of Justice (DOJ) filed a lawsuit against Apple, accusing the company of engaging in anticompetitive behavior.

Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) President David Williams offered the following statement:

“The DOJ’s suit against Apple is a classic case of weaponizing government and yet another example of how the Biden Administration completely disregards consumer welfare in its ideological crusade against America’s most successful companies. In its attempt to protect competitors, the DOJ throws consumers under the bus by punishing a company for building an integrated portfolio of services that consumers continue to validate by voting with their wallets.

“The DOJ is penalizing Apple for building a seamless and integrated consumer experience that provides users goods and services that they value – all because it does not adjust to this administration’s flawed definition of competitiveness. Instead of protecting consumers, the administration is seeking to reduce consumer choice and technological innovation by forcing Apple’s products to work more like their competitors’. The DOJ disregards the fact that consumers have ample hardware and software offerings, and that if they deem Apple’s approach as unacceptable, they can easily pivot away to any of the alternatives.

“Once again, the administration shows that it prioritizes its ‘big is bad’ agenda over the welfare of consumers and the American economy at large.

“This lawsuit fundamentally attacks consumer choice and is a waste of taxpayer money and time by the DOJ.”
