WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) has endorsed the Protecting Taxpayers and Victims of Unemployment Fraud Act introduced by House Ways and Means Committee Chair Jason Smith (R-Mo.) and House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer (R-Ky.).

In response, David Williams, TPA President, offered the following comment:

“TPA is proud to support the Protecting Taxpayers and Victims of Unemployment Fraud Act, which seeks to recover up to $400 billion that was stolen during the pandemic. Proposed solutions such as incentivizing states to pursue lost funds, restoring program integrity, and extending the statute of limitations for pursuing fraudulent charges are steps in the right direction.

“With only $5 billion being recovered thus far, lawmakers owe it to the American people to reclaim these stolen or misused funds and protect taxpayers from fraudulent unemployment claims in the future.

“TPA thanks Chairs Smith and Comer for putting taxpayers first and proposing commonsense legislation to put taxpayer dollars back in the hands of those who actually need it.”
