Washington, D.C. – The Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) is encouraged by the Senate taking a vote on a War Powers Resolution, introduced by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), to cease the United States’ involvement in and support for the Saudi Arabian war in Yemen.
In response TPA Director of Policy, Dan Savickas, commented:
“The United States federal government has administered tens of billions of dollars to supply the Saudi Arabian-led coalition with weapons and training to carry out its war in Yemen. In response to the destruction, poverty and famine caused by this conflict, the U.S. has authorized a further $1 billion in aid to Yemen in 2022 alone – and over $5 billion since the conflict began.
“The administration’s ongoing support for the Saudi-led effort, despite pledges to end contributions, has directly resulted in these billions in unnecessary expenditures. It has also done so without clear authorization from the legislative branch, which holds the sole war-making authority under Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution. We are encouraged by Sen. Sanders’ bill to draw attention to this and to cut both the human cost of this war and the cost to American taxpayers.”
