Washington, D.C. – The Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) strongly urges senators to vote ‘no’ on the infrastructure package, H.R. 3684. This massive bill is being rushed through and continues the poor government spending habits of recent years.

In response, TPA Vice President of Policy Patrick Hedger offered the following comment:

“Congress has a spending problem. In recent years, we accumulated the most debt in our nation’s history. The Congressional Budget Office projects the country will run a $3 trillion deficit this year. Instead of working to fix it, this package will do just the opposite. It is filled with billions in spending without offsets, carrying a price tag of well over a trillion dollars.

“On top of that, this bill is almost 3000 pages long and is being ushered through only a week after the text was released. There is no way members of the Senate, their staff, or the American people know what’s in this legislation. As a result, the bill contains some ill-considered language that would smother nascent industries, like cryptocurrency, emulating recent moves by the Chinese government. This isn’t the model we should follow in legislation billed as a counter to the growing Chinese economy.

“Something this large needs more time, debate, and consideration. This is not a serious attempt to fix our nation’s infrastructure and should be soundly rejected if brought to the floor in its current form.”
