Washington, D.C.—The Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) is disappointed to see the latest jobs report released on Friday which shows far fewer jobs added to the workforce than economists expected.
In response, TPA Executive Director, Patrick Hedger, offered the following comment:
“It’s discouraging, yet not surprising to see that only 199,000 jobs—fewer than half of what was expected—were created during the month of December. Coupled with the nomination of David Weil to the head the Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division (WHD), and increasing inflation, Americans will find it increasingly hard to find employment or create their own opportunities for economic independence.
“Inexplicably, David Weil has expressed a desire to put limitations on independent contractors and franchise small businesses. With the current state of the economy and latest jobs numbers, this is the last thing the American people need. Instead, the country needs to cut excessive government spending, reduce regulations and place individuals into positions of leadership who have the best interests of the American workers and consumers at heart, not union bosses.”
