Washington, D.C. – Today, the Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) urged Members of Congress to step out of the closed door meetings and talk with taxpayers about the $3.5 reconciliation package. As Americans face the harsh realities of a Biden Economy with high inflation and product shortages, their representatives in Congress should be holding public hearings and meeting with their constituents instead of negotiating higher spending and taxes behind closed doors. No further negotiations should take place until public hearings and townhall meetings are held.
TPA President David Williams made the following statement:
“TPA is calling on Congress and the White House to stop all negotiations until public hearings are scheduled, and members of Congress hold townhall meetings to talk to their constituents about the $3.5 trillion budget bill. This bill will fundamentally change spending and taxation in this country and there have been ZERO public hearings. The American people are looking to their elected officials in Washington for real leadership as economic uncertainty continues to grip the nation. Taxpayers deserve a fiscally responsible budget, which helps mitigate the economic damage inflicted over the past year, not a $3.5 trillion spending and taxing spree that will only add to the nation’s growing debt and soaring inflation. It is unacceptable that there hasn’t been one public hearing or townhall meeting to discuss this massive package.
“It’s not too late. TPA urges Members of Congress to reach out to constituents who are not being heard in these closed-door meetings. Americans are suffering under high inflation and their members of Congress should be focused on listening to their concerns on increased government spending.”
