Washington, D.C. – Following the Department of Labor’s reports that June’s consumer price index rose 9.1 percent, the Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) is concerned by the inflationary policies that continue to accelerate this historic inflation.

TPA Executive Director, Patrick Hedger, offered the following statement:

“The headlines say this inflation report is surprising, exceeding expectations. No average American is surprised by this report. They’re seeing it every day when they buy everything down to basic necessities.

“It’s a quintessential Washington mentality to be shocked by this report. This is probably why elected officials are so focused on policies that will not only not address inflation, but likely exacerbate it. Congressional Democrats and the Biden administration seem laser-focused on ramming through a zombie Build Back Better that increases spending and taxes at the worst possible time. The administration continues to antagonize the energy industry with rhetoric and red tape. Virtually nothing has been done to reduce tariffs. Top Democrats, and sadly many Republicans, are playing the antitrust fiddle, explicitly targeting tech companies that provide low cost, even free products and services, while inflation burns red hot. Billions of dollars are being spent to subsidize broadband internet boondoggles, flying in the face of the fact that internet service is one of the few categories where prices are falling. The list of misplaced priorities goes on and on.

“Enough is enough. Policymakers cannot continue to hide behind the crashing waves of war in Europe and ongoing problems associated with the pandemic. Washington is responsible for this 9.1 percent slap in the face.”
