Washington D.C. – This week marks Small Business Week 2025. This is an opportunity for the nation to celebrate the impact of American entrepreneurs across the country.
Reflecting on Small Business Week in this critical year, David Williams, president of the Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA), offered this analysis:
“From owner operated franchises to gig economy operators, small businesses are providing billions of dollars of revenue to owners, employees, and government coffers. Getting regulatory and tax policy right is critical for the health of small businesses and the economy. Every day, hardworking Americans work on razor thin margins to make their dreams a reality and turn their ideas into successful businesses. Some of the most innovative and valuable inventions and products in American history began with ordinary people capitalizing on their vision and talents. Apple started out as a small business that eventually became a big business.
“When the federal government takes too much money from business owners or imposes heavy regulatory burdens, small businesses suffer the most. The little guys will always have more trouble navigating high taxes and regulatory barriers than the big ones. To keep competition from insurgent small businesses robust, lawmakers must craft tax and regulatory codes that do not unfairly squash startups.
“There are many provisions of the TCJA that must be extended to help American businesses. Most notably, the corporate tax rate must be kept at its current rate — or lowered. It certainly must not be allowed to rise back to pre-TCJA levels. Additionally, extending other provisions such as the business 199A deduction will create a more level playing field.
“There would be no better news during Small Business Week than progress on TCJA’s extension. America’s small business community and the health of the national economy depends on it.”
