Washington, D.C. – Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA), a nonprofit, nonpartisan taxpayer and consumer advocacy organization opposes the nomination Jessica Rosenworcel as Chair of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Gigi Sohn as FCC Commissioner. Both Roswenworcel and Sohn are supporters of failed anti-consumer policy like government-owned networks. TPA is concerned about the direction of both the FCC and FTC under the Biden Administration, and hopes to see increased transparency and prioritization of consumers moving forward.
TPA Vice President of Policy Patrick Hedger offered the following statement:
“Taxpayers and consumers should be very concerned about the nomination of Jessica Rosenworcel as Chair of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Gigi Sohn as FCC Commissioner. Rosenworcel and Sohn have advocated for billions of taxpayer dollars to be spent on government-owned broadband networks across the country that have failed, leaving taxpayers in the financial lurch.
“We are also deeply concerned about the Biden administration’s approach to the FCC given the recent anti-consumer work being done at the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Senators were largely kept in the dark when voting to confirm FTC Commissioner Khan, only for Biden to name her Chair once confirmed. Since this move, the FTC has tossed aside significant bipartisan frameworks. The Democratic majority has done seemingly everything possible to marginalize their Republican colleagues, pursuing a radical progressive agenda that threatens to upend key sectors of the economy. These nominations to FCC could put that commission on a strikingly similar path.
“Further, Americans shouldn’t be subject to another needlessly hyperbolic and ugly fight over equally needless net neutrality rules. Democrats spent years fear mongering about the end of the internet, only for the rollback of net neutrality to resemble end of the Mayan Calendar.
“We will be encouraging Senators to oppose this package of nominees.”
