Today, TPA sent a letter to members of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee head of their consequential markup of S. 1409, the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), and S. 1418, the Children and Teens’ Online Privacy Act (COPPA 2.0) tomorrow. These two bills contain several issues, ranging from unconstitutional age verifications, ignorant consent requirements, heightened data collection, and a fundamental misunderstanding of targeted advertising.

FTC and DOJ Merger Guidelines Harm Competition

Just days after President Biden announced that “Bidenomics is about increasing competition, not stifling competition,” the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice (DOJ) handed down new merger guidelines. As is the case with most everything that comes out of the FTC recently, the new guidelines will, in fact, stifle competition. The new guidelines are vague at best and will discourage economic activity that leads to innovation and investment.
