WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, the Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) weighed in on the latest employment data, and urged policymakers to come together and expand opportunities for working Americans. In July, nearly 1.8 million jobs were added to the U.S. economy, beating projections by more than 300,000 jobs. After record-high unemployment due to the COVID-19 pandemic earlier this year, 9.3 million jobs have been added to the U.S. economy in three months.
TPA President David Williams praised these better-than-expected figures, stating, “although the United States is still in the grips of the COVID-19 pandemic, millions across the country are getting back to work. The fact that we’ve added more than 9 million jobs since April is inspiring and speaks to the spirit of America and the positive effects of tax and regulatory reform since Donald Trump took office. Prior to the pandemic, the economy was strong and growing at an impressive rate. Businesses, entrepreneurs, and households should be proud of the work they’ve done to help get America going again. We encourage more tax and regulatory relief to continue to grow the economy.”
Williams continued: “People across the country may be dealing with a ‘new normal’ but they’re not letting undue hardships keep them from providing for themselves and their loved ones. We’re seeing unemployment drop across all demographics as states reopen and various sectors of our economy are being revitalized. Despite this progress, onerous regulations remain that continue to hold back progress. Governments at all levels should commit to continuing to roll back these #NeverNeeded restrictions.”
Williams concluded: “As Congress debates the latest COVID legislative relief package, it’s important to take a step back and reflect on the progress that America has made. The latest unemployment numbers show Americans want to get back to work with the help of temporary assistance rather than blank checks from the government. Companies are hiring every day and jobs are readily being filled by hardworking Americans. There’s still far more work to be done, but adding almost 1.8 million jobs to the economy is nothing to scoff at.”
