TPA’s Good COP To Be Held in Panama City, Panama February 5-10

With less than a month away from the World Health Organization’s (WHO) postponed 10th Conference of the Parties (COP10) of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, the Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) is pleased to announce details of our own Good (Conference of the People) COP conference war room.

Good COP will feature nearly two dozen tobacco harm reduction experts, representing 11 different countries and highlighting some of the leading experts on consumer issues, national and global policies, and the science surrounding harm reduction.

Good COP will be taking place from Monday, February 5 to Friday, February 10 in Panama City, Panama – several kilometers away from where global delegates will be meeting at COP10. TPA and the Good COP participants will be monitoring the WHO’s meeting and providing running commentary via livestreams, media interviews, blogs, and social media.

TPA has long advocated for adult access to safer alternatives to cigarettes and has been alarmed by the prohibitionist-stance the WHO continues to push onto unsuspecting countries which would vastly benefit from adult access to alternative tobacco products including e-cigarettes, heated tobacco, and oral nicotine options.

TPA has been organizing this event for over a year now, with Good COP originally to take place in November. Due to disorganization and dysfunction from the WHO (as well as protests in Panama at the time), the WHO postponed the original COP10, leading to our own postponement.

While there has been little-to-no information about the rescheduled COP10, TPA is pleased to be hosting our own Good COP and the opportunity to inform policymakers and the media about tobacco harm reduction, as well as calling out the WHO’s irresponsible public health messaging about tobacco harm reduction.
