Washington, D.C. – The Taxpayers Protection Alliance is concerned with the latest proposal from lawmakers to provide gas stimulus checks to the American people.

In response, TPA President, David Williams, offered the following statement:

“The Gas Rebate Act of 2022 is not a solution for Americans dealing with all time high prices at the pump and record-breaking inflation. Instead of being dependent on Congress giving consumers a handout, the country should be moving toward energy independence which will lower prices.”

“The current energy policies in place and government overspending is a major contributing factor to the current economic issues Americans are facing each day. Instead of increasing reckless spending, states should follow in the footsteps of Maryland and Georgia and pass a gas tax holiday to provide relief to the American people.”

“Sending checks will inevitably lead to wasteful spending and money not being spent on gasoline.  Plus, it may takes weeks or months for the checks to be sent. A gas tax holiday will have an immediate effect on gas prices and help Americans cope with current inflationary pressures.  A gas stimulus check is nothing more than a gimmick.”
