WASHINGTON, D.C. – Following the news of the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) new lawsuit aimed at blocking the merger of two supermarket chains, Kroger and Albertsons, the Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) slammed the government agency for its continued overreach in private markets.
TPA President David Williams offered the following comment:
“It’s clear with today’s announcement that the FTC and Chair Lina Kahn have solidified themselves as an antitrust archetype – prioritizing ideology in an attempt to manipulate markets over protecting the interests of the American consumer.
“TPA will continue to hold these unelected bureaucrats accountable for methodically wasting taxpayer money in pursuit of their illogical agenda.”
TPA experts have written extensively on the FTC’s power-hungry mission creep, most recently in an Issues & Insights op-ed titled “Looming Kroger-Albertson’s Challenge Exposes Antitrust Hypocrisy,” where Director of Policy Dan Savickas predicted today’s shameful action and called out the agency’s hypocritical antitrust march.
