WASHINGTON, D.C. – With Republican control of the House of Representatives in the 118th Congress, the GOP Conference will soon be voting on its party rules. As a result, some members of Congress have proposed bringing back pork-barrel earmarks. The Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) strongly opposes recent calls to reinstate earmarks and encourages Americans across the country to sign a petition to say, “NO” to wasteful spending.

In response, TPA Executive Director, Patrick Hedger, offered the following comment:
“Earmarks cost American taxpayers tens of billions of dollars on an annual basis, and that is why the Taxpayers Protection Alliance has started a petition to urge members of Congress to oppose reinstating earmarks in the 118th Congress.
“With historic inflation and rising interest rates pushing the cost of servicing our $31 trillion debt to astronomical levels, it’s ridiculous for anyone to support spending money on pork-barrel spending. Earmarks are a breeding ground for corruption and wasteful spending.
“From $50,000,000 for an indoor rain forest in Iowa to $500,000 for a teapot museum in North Carolina, these are perfect examples of why earmarks must never be resurrected.
“TPA urges Americans across the country to sign the petition to stop earmarks and urge the 118th Congress to be fiscally responsible.”
