WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) once again urges House Republicans to oppose reinstating earmarks in the 118th Congress. As the House GOP Conference votes on its party rules for the new Congress, TPA reminds elected officials that pork-barrel spending is an irresponsible use of taxpayer dollars.
In response, TPA Executive Director, Patrick Hedger, offered the following comment:
“Tomorrow marks an important vote as the House GOP Conference decides on its party rules, including whether the 118th Congress will bring back pork-barrel spending. Earmarks are the currency of corruption that have cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars over the years.
“Americans have suffered enough as a result of the federal government’s wasteful spending, which has resulted in unchecked inflation and a swelling national debt. Now is the time for the House GOP to stand with taxpayers and support the amendment offered by Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.) to ban earmarks.
“TPA applauds the 93 House Republicans who refused to submit earmarks for fiscal year 2022 and hopes that the House GOP Conference will follow in their footsteps to practice fiscal responsibility by saying no to reinstating earmarks.”
