Tobacco & Vaping 101: Canadian Provinces

Canadian lawmakers often face misinformation regarding adult smoking and vaping habits. This misinformation can lead to misguided legislation and regulation. The analysis provided contains current data on the use of cigarettes and e-cigarette products among adults and youth in Canada and 10 provinces, along with information on cigarette sales and provincial tobacco tax revenues.

Combustible Cigarette and E-Cigarette Use
Each analysis features an examination of current smoking rates among persons aged 15 years or older in each respective province and Canada, including information on percent changes through time as well as information on ages of people who smoke. Each analysis also includes information on persons who vape.

Youth Combustible Cigarette and E-Cigarette Use
Each analysis examines youth use of combustible cigarettes and e-cigarettes in 2021-22, including reasons why youth are vaping.

Cigarette Sales and Tobacco Taxes
Each analysis features data on the number of cigarettes sold in each province, as well as trends in tobacco and vapor product tax collections and correlations between smoking rates.
