Panel of Global Experts Criticizes WHO for Undermining Its Own “World No Tobacco Day” Goals

In anticipation of World No Tobacco Day on May 31st, the Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) recently hosted a panel of global tobacco harm reduction advocates and experts to discuss how the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Secretariat of the Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) are undermining efforts towards to achieving a true World No Tobacco Day.
Led by TPA International Fellow Martin Cullip, the panel included Kurt Yeo, of Vaping Saved my Life, South Africa, Pippa Starr of “Australia, Let’s Improve Vaping Education,” and Reem Ibrahim, of the UK’s Institute of Economic Affairs. Panelists highlighted the growing frustration with the WHO’s refusal to embrace tobacco harm reduction strategies despite compelling evidence of their life-saving potential. With World No Tobacco Day scheduled for May 31st, it is beyond time that the taxpayer funded WHO abandoned stubborn ideology and focus on innovation which is proven to help smokers to quit smoking.
