Senators Must Stop David Weil

Confirmation hearings for David Weil to head the Department of Labor’s (DOL) Wage & Hour Division are set to occur tomorrow on Thursday July 15th.

During his first go-around at the DOL, Weil opted to define “independent contractor” to exclude the vast majority of workers despite their preferences or industry realities. A DOL enforcement wing under Weil could enact the worst of the PRO Act, without it becoming law, through regulation. Senators should view Weil’s confirmation as a proxy vote on the PRO Act and reject this nomination.
