Today, the Taxpayers Protection Alliance released “Getting Smart About AI: A Conceptual Framework for Innovation and Better Governance,” a policy guide for lawmakers on how to properly govern artificial intelligence. Following a multitude of proposed bills in Congress and a recent executive order from the Biden Administration attempting to rein in Artificial Intelligence, TPA recognizes the novelty of regulating this increasingly important technology and provides Capitol Hill with recommendations for best practices for ensuring a light-touch, regulatory framework prevails.
TPA President David Williams offered the following comment:
“Policymakers should be taking an incremental approach to regulating artificial intelligence. The technology has the potential to make Americans far more prosperous. Unfortunately, we’ve already seen an overzealous administration eager to stifle innovation based on a sensationalized fear of AI-enabled technologies. It is an economic and national security imperative for America to adopt a light-touch regulatory framework for AI, one that will foster private-sector innovation and ensure America remains the world’s technological leader. Congress should examine how existing regulatory powers can apply to AI products before delegating new powers to bureaucrats, who too often are eager to overstep and stifle ideas and technologies they deem ‘dangerous.’”
