TPA Joins Opposition to Black Box Mandate

Press release:

Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) today joined the effort to oppose the Black Box Mandate. The proposed law would require all cars sold in the United States from 2015 forward to be equipped with a black box data recording device, similar to those currently found on airplanes.

“The Black Box Mandate would give the government huge amounts of personal data regarding the habits and movements of private citizens,” said Taxpayers Protection Alliance president David Williams. “This legislation not only violates Americans’ protected rights, but burdens manufacturers with an onerous new regulation whose cost will eventually be passed down to the consumer.”

The Oppose the Black Box Mandate Pledge launched last week and provides Americans the opportunity to join with TPA in opposing this intrusive and overreaching legislation.

The Oppose the Black Box Mandate Pledge:

I pledge to urge my members of Congress and President Obama to oppose any federal action to mandate the use of black box data recorders in personal vehicles. Whereas mandating black box data recorders;

  1. Is an infringement on personal privacy and freedoms.
  2. Would be a slippery slope for Government to track citizen’s transportation habits and location.
  3. Is both an unnecessary expansion of government police power and an undue mandate on consumers and business.
