Washington, D.C. – The Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) called for a new hearing of Gigi Sohn’s nomination to head the Federal Communications Commission.
TPA Director of Telecom Policy, Johnny Kampis, offered the following statement:
“Congress should heed Sen. Roger Wicker’s (R-Miss.) call for a new hearing on Federal Communications Commission nominee Gigi Sohn. It’s troubling that Sohn signed a $32 million settlement agreement with broadcasters and now wants to regulate them. This raises serious conflicts of interest concerns.
There are reports that Sohn was negotiating a recusal deal with broadcasters to address those concerns, but those negotiations have not been made public. There is too much at stake for consumers and taxpayers. Congress needs all of the facts before voting on Sohn’s confirmation and they don’t have them yet.”
