TPA Urges Senate to Reject Costly, Misleading Food Labeling Mandates

Ahead of today’s Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) hearing, the Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) sent a letter urging lawmakers to oppose the Childhood Diabetes Reduction Act (CDRA). The bill’s sweeping front-of-package warning label mandates would raise grocery prices, mislead consumers by applying to a broad range of everyday foods, and undermine First Amendment protections for commercial speech. While the bill was agreed to by a roll call vote during the hearing, TPA remains hopeful the legislation will stall in both chambers and lawmakers will go back to the drawing board to pursue a light-touch regulatory approach to food labeling and innovation that puts consumers first.
