Taxpayers Protection Alliance

January 19, 2024

This week, the Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) submitted written testimony in three states: Florida, South Carolina, and Vermont

TPA submitted testimony opposing social media regulation and age verification bills in Florida and South Carolina. A number of these bills are making their way across state legislatures, and invariably will continue to pop up throughout the year in other states.

Florida HB1 and South Carolina H3424 and H4700 would create age verification procedures for children online who engage in social media and may be exposed to harmful content. SC bill H4700 and FL bill HB1 would also prohibit minors under the age of sixteen from creating new accounts on social media platforms.

In Vermont, TPA Senior Fellow Lindsey Stroud submitted testimony for a bill that would ban flavored tobacco products and e-liquids. Banning harm reduction alternatives to combustible cigarettes puts communities at risk for more serious health issues.
