On Monday, February 10, TPA sent a letter to the Commissioners of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to reject Treasury Department Capital Projects Fund (CPF) grant funds. The City of Vineland is ineligible for this grant money, and it would be a waste of taxpayer money to award it to them. This money was created during the pandemic to grant funds to close the broadband connectivity gap in areas across the country. The City of Vineland already has connected 99 percent of its residents and businesses to high-speed internet. Granting them these funds would be duplicative and wasteful. By rejecting Vineland’s application, the Board would uphold existing federal policy against wasting taxpayer money on overbuilding. Congress clearly articulated as much in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law of 2021.
