Washington, D.C. – The Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA) released results today from a nine-state survey examining voter sentiment around Congressional priorities and tech-targeted antitrust bills moving through the U.S. Senate. The survey revealed that most Americans want Congress to focus on pocketbook issues like inflation and creating jobs, not rewriting antitrust law.

Republican pollster Erik Iverson conducted the survey on behalf of TPA, which included 3,900 interviews across Alaska, Florida, Iowa, Maine, Nebraska, South Dakota, South Carolina, Utah and West Virginia. In a memo detailing the results, Iverson offered three key takeaways:

  1. Voters want Congress working on pocketbook issues, not on regulating U.S. tech companies.
  2. When it comes to tech issues, voters want Congress to focus on protecting their online privacy and personal data, not breaking up U.S. tech companies.
  3. Voters don’t trust China or support legislation that makes online data vulnerable to Chinese hackers and foreign cyber-attacks, or that gives Chinese companies a competitive advantage over U.S. tech companies.

“Members should listen to their constituents,” said TPA Executive Director Patrick Hedger. “Americans want Congress to focus issues affecting their financial bottom line, not breaking up U.S. tech companies and empowering the nation’s adversaries.”

Recently, TPA launched a national advertising campaign to highlight concerns over antitrust bills introduced by Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Richard Blumenthal (D-Ct.). TPA’s ad echoes voter sentiment from the survey, which found most Americans are less likely to support legislation that puts U.S. tech companies at a competitive disadvantage with China.
